Can you tell the difference between a beet and a radish?

It turns out we can’t tell the difference between a beet and a radish either!  We had some beets in our farm share last week so we decided to roast them so that we could eat them with greens and goat cheese.  Everything we have found online and in cookbooks suggests that you should wrap the beets individually in tin foil and roast at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

On Sunday, Andy grabbed everything that looked like a beet, wrapped it in tin foil, and threw them in the oven for 45 minutes.  Later that evening when he was at softball I started to unwrap the  “beets” to peel their skins off.

I discovered some very colorful beets.

I also discovered some of these…

Radishes!  I do not recommend roasting them. Radishes are best eaten cold.  Our roasted ones went right to the trash!

However, the beets are yummy!

    Andy said,

I thought they looked a little small to be beets! I was wondering why some of the root string thingies looked so different.

I think I would have been able to tell the difference if we left the greens attached.

But now I know for next time :)
